Most people are not aware of the importance of making a Will. However, preparing one is often put off and thought about as something to do “tomorrow”. In many cases, people often forget to make one at all.
Making a Will is one of the few opportunities you have to give relatively large amounts of money to family, friends and favourite charities, without actually taking out your cheque book. Making a Will is also really important because if you die without leaving a Will, the State directs who inherits your money and possessions, instead of you. Worryingly, it is estimated that between 55 – 60% of people die in this country each year without having settled their affairs by making a Will.
It is also vital to make a Will if you have children or dependants who may not be able to care for themselves, if you have overseas property, if you own a business or if you are not married to your partner. Also, leaving money to charities in your Will makes sense because charitable gifts are exempt from Inheritance Tax.
Once you have made your Will, it is essential to review it every five years or so.
So, not having a will means that:
Your family and friends can end up with nothing when you die.
The State can claim your hard-earned savings!
By planning you can be sure that your wishes will be met.

Οι περισσότεροι άνθρωποι δεν γνωρίζουν πόσο σηματικό είναι να έχουμε διαθήκη. Και όταν αποφασίζουν να φτιάξουν τη διαθήκη τους το αφήνουν για την επόμενη μέρα.
Η διαθήκη είναι μια από τις ελάχιστες ευκαιρίες να αφήσετε χρήματα στην οικογένεια, φίλους και αγαπημένα φιλανθρωπικά κέντρα. Η διαθήκη είναι πολύ σημαντική γιατί άμα πεθάνετε και δεν έχετε διαθήκη, η κυβέρνηση αποφασίζει ποιος θα κρατήση την κληρονομιά σας και όχι εσείς. Είναι ανησυχιτικό οτι το 55-60% των ανθρώπων που πεθένουν σε αυτή την χώρα δεν έχουν γράψει διαθήκη.
Μόλις γράψετε τη διαθήκη σας είναι επείσης σημαντικό να την ελένχετε κάθε 5 χρόνια.
